Useful food you can make






Ok I thought I would leave some recipes here for things I use but don't always have on hand. Now I just make it myself. Lets face it -It never fails when you need an item there is not always a coupon or good deal out for it. So I think it is cheaper to make it -in this case!


Baking Powder

2 Tablespoons Cream Of Tartar Powder

1 Tablespoon Baking Soda

1 Tablespoon Cornstarch

Sift ingredients together and store in small container with tight-fitting lid.
One teaspoon of this equals 1 teaspoon of commercial baking powder.


Brown Sugar

2 T. molasses
1 C. granulated sugar


Blend together using a fork, store in airtight container.


Coffee Creamer
14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
1 1/2 cups skim milk
flavorings of choice.

Example flavorings:
Chocolate Almond use: 1-Tbsp cocoa, 1-tsp almond extract
Vanilla: use 2-tsp vanilla extract
Cappuccino: use 1-tsp almond extract, 1/2 tsp orange extract
Strudel: use 1 T. cinnamon, 1 tsp vanilla extract, 1 ts almond extract.
Chocolate Raspberry: use 2 tsp cocoa powder, 2 T. raspberry syrup
Measure all ingredients into 32 oz container (with a cover) , seal container and shake vigorously. (Store in fridge up to 2 weeks)

Non-Stick Vegetable Spray

1 c. liquid lecithin 1 c. Vegetable Oil


Combine, store in pump spray bottle. To Make butter flavor, add 1/2 tsp Butter extract to the mix


SOUR CREAM

2 cups light cream
2 Tbsp buttermilk

Combine cream with buttermilk in hot, clean glass jar with a lid. Cover tightly and shake gently to thoroughly mix. Let stand in a warm place till thickened (24-48 hours). Store, covered in refrigerator. Stir before serving. Use within three weeks


Potato Chips
2 lb. potatoes
1/4 C. vegetable oil
1/4 C. assorted seasonings: salt, onion salt, garlic powder, hot chili powder, grated Parmesan cheese, Chives

Preheat oven to 450ºF. Scrub potatoes and slice as thin as you can, or slice with a food processor, if desired. Spray a large cookie sheet with oil and spread slices out in a single layer. Spritz or Brush tops of potatoes with vegetable oil. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes (or until potatoes are golden brown.)
While chips are still warm, place in a paper bag with 1/4 c. of desired seasoning, shake gently. Serve as is or with dips.
